Message --script-arg should remain because I need it and I've been the one
producing the last few releases.

I have added it to the documentation.

The problem you have is not specific to Python - you try to encode
unicode string in the
source file without givin its encoding (I guess in your case it's UTF-8).

Can you try putting the following in your code:

querystring = u"select id from project where name='T2 :
Conformit\u00E9: plan fonctionnel'"

projid = db.loadVal(querystring.encode("iso-8859-15"))
if projid == None:
   print "projid1:None"
else:
   print "projid1:"+projid

projid = db.loadVal(querystring.encode("utf-8"))
....

See also description of Python unicode implementation

taking into account jython differences

Hope this helps,

Message Can you give more precisions please. I am not very familiar with Python
(this is my first project with this language) so I do not understand
what you mean by \u notation.
I give a look to the pyhton docs, and it seems that I have to use \u for
each string in my application. Is it correct ? If so it is not
acceptable (my application mainly deals with strings and also with user
strings so I do not know if it will work).

And I think this is not the solution because the problem is that the
jython interpreter works well when it interprets the file with the good
encoding (it is not that the string are badly encoded I think).
For example, under Linux, having my file encoded into UTF-8 will give
the good results but under Windows it will fail.
And of course, the contrary is also true : encoding my files in ISO8859
give the good solution uinder Windows but not under Linux.
Do I miss something with the encodings ?

BTW, I am really ded up with encoding problems :)

Have you tried using \u notation instead of -encoding flag?

Message Hi again,

I finally really found the problem: this is the java compiler (javac)
which operates differently under Windows and under Linux.
using javac -encoding ISO8859_1 Test.java solves the problem.

But I do not know how to use this solution with MaxQ.
More clearly, how do you tell maxq that the python scripts are in
ISO8859_1 (and not in UTF8) ?

Regards,
chris

Message Hi,

I've clearly identify the problem. This is not a maxq or jython issue
but a java issue.
Here is the TestDB.java :
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
import java.sql.*;

public class TestDB{

        try{
            Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
            Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://192.168.0.253:3306/testlink",
"root", "");

            String sql = "select id from project where name='T2 :
Conformité : plan fonctionnel'";
            Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
            ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
            String str = null;
            if (rs.next()) {
                str = rs.getString(1);
            }
            rs.close();
            stmt.close();

            System.out.println("projid: "+str);
        } catch (Exception e) {
            System.err.println("error"+e);
        }
    }
}
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Compile it and run it under Linux. Ouput is:
projid: null

Run it under windows (the .class is compiled under Linux). Output is:
projid: null

Compile it and run it under Windows. Ouput is:
projid: 8

Run it under linux (.class is compiled under Windows). Output is:
projid: 8
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

So I do not know the reason nor the solution, but I have identified the
problem.

If someone has some informations about that problem, please let me know.

Message Hi,

I have a different behavior of DBUtil between Windows XP Pro and Linux
(Fedora 3 or Mandrake 10).
All the data (maxq + script) are under a fat32 visible from win xp and
linuxes.
The database is under another Fedora 3 @ 192.168.0.253

Here is the code of test_dbutil.py (encoding: ISO-8859-15) :
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
from com.bitmechanic.maxq import DBUtil

db = DBUtil("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver",
"jdbc:mysql://192.168.0.253:3306/testlink", "root", "")

projid = db.loadVal("select id from project where name='T2 : Conformité
: plan fonctionnel'")
if projid == None:
    print "projid1:None"
else:
    print "projid1:"+projid

projid = db.loadVal("select id from project where name='T2 : Conformité
: plan fonctionnel'")
if projid == None:
    print "projid2:None"
else:
    print "projid2:"+projid

Can someone explain me why there is a difference between the systems ?
I think this is an encoding problem but I do not see where : the JVM is
UTF8 under win and linux, the db does not change (so encoding of the db
is not the problem),
the jdbc driver is exactly the same...

Documentation: command line arguments

Message Hi,

The documentation about the command line arguments misses a great future
of MaxQ : --script-arg
This should be documented as follow:
--script-arg args | --script-arg "the arguments of the script" |
string that can be retrieved thanks to PyHttpTestCase.getScriptArg
method (inherited from HttpTestCase)

This is particulary usefull when you need to pass a var to all scripts
without using vars.py (i.e a separate python script) to store it.

My only question is: will this feature be available in future releases
of maxQ ?

regards,
chris

Message Jesus, Marcin

thank you both for your responses. Both PATH and JAVA_HOME were set properly. I changed the build.xml in maxq such that the javac task included that attribute fork="yes", and it worked. fork will override the ant property build.compiler which was set to jikes. Why that did not work, i'm not sure.

Thanks,
James

James,

The first thing I would check is can you run javac from the command line?
Try "which javac" at the command line what does that give you?
